Vijay structured his talk beautifully by beginning with an introduction to some of the terminologies, then giving a historical perspective, moving from classical concepts to newer thoughts and contradictions, and finally a brief note on the language disorders.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some salient points from the talk and discussions include:
- Besides word production, Broca's area may also play role in grammatical structuring and others.
- "Dual stream hypothesis" (Dorothee Saur, 2008) describes a dorsal pathway involved in word-repetition, word-generation, etc. ,as well as ventral pathway that links with Pre-frontal cortex to attribute meaning to words/sentences.
- Timely expression of some of the so called 'linguistic' genes during a critical period of language acquisition may be essential for proper language development.
- Multi-language exposure during early days, what are its effects? Do they lead to stuttering or other communication difficulties in children?
