Epigenetics is the flexibility offered to transcription and expression of genes without causing permanent changes to the genes as such. The latter should be considered a gene mutation, and could be genetically transferred to the subsequent generations. However, if the definition of epigenetics is unclear, the inheritance of so called "epigenetic markers" could be controversial.
