The seminar was well structured and described the role of calcium at various levels of organization.
Some of the salient points were:
- Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) has a significant role in the Ca2+ signal amplification and timing by interacting with Plasma membrane.
- To meet this, structural organization ER differs at dentrites, soma and synaptic boutons.
- Neurotransmitter release at synapses is modulated by the proximity between calcium channel and vescicle release machinery.
- After-Hyperpolarization (decrease excitability) and after-depolarization (increase excitability) are important ways of neuromodulatory control executed via Ca2+ signalling.
